Bilingual and Multicultural Counselling

It was reported in 2016 by the Australian Government reported, that over 300 languages were spoken in Australia. Here at Tonic Psychology we are always attempting to ensure a diverse team that reflect the diversity of Australia. This is why we offer counselling in a range of languages. In addition to English, we also have:

  • Hindi speaking psychologists

  • Vietnamese speaking psychologists

  • Urdu speaking psychologists

  • Portuguese speaking psychologists

  • Dari speaking psychologists

  • Farsi speaking psychologists

Beyond languages, we are also proud of having brought together a team of incredible psychologists with a broad range of different backgrounds to ensure that Australians have access to culturally appropriate mental health support. Our team have backgrounds from all over the globe including:

  • Asia

  • Latin America

  • Middle East

  • South Asia

  • Europe

Studies have shown that multilingual counselling allows patients to be able to express their feelings more accurately and clearly to their psychologist as they can use the language they are most comfortable in.  It was also found that patients and psychologists were better able to understand the impacts of culture and belonging when counselling was conducted in their home language.

Language can be a barrier for people accessing mental health services. Our mission is to ensure people across Australia can access support, no matter their background. Our multilingual services are offered both face-to-face and via telehealth! Our team want to provide compassionate care to all that seek it.

Our psychologists offer all of our bilingual services, including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety and depression counselling

  • Anger management

  • Eating disorder counselling

  • Family counselling

  • child counselling

  • disability counselling

  • career counselling

  • couples counselling
